Annandale Youth Lacrosse

Our motto is simple:

Practice Hard – Play Strong – Love Lacrosse

For decades, Annandale Youth Lacrosse (AYL) has provided a positive, competitive and character-building lacrosse experience for boys and girls, from elementary through middle school ages.  While everyone loves to win – and we do too – we also love seeing our young athletes mature into healthy, happy and well-rounded teammates and lacrosse players.

As a Sportsmanship grant recipient from USA Lacrosse and the Positive Coaching Alliance, we go the extra mile to ensure our coaches and parents understand the goals of positive coaching to build better athletes and better people.  As a PCA partner, we provide both coaching and parenting seminars on creating a culture that honors the game with hard work, good play and fun.

Here at AYL we work hard to ensure our players want to come back to lacrosse, year after year. In fact, many Annandale Youth Lacrosse alumni, both boys and girls, will play on high school teams throughout the community and many have gone on to compete at the highest collegiate levels.  We’re proud of the athletes who began at AYL and, often times, have even returned to help us coach the next generation of young lax’ers.

As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, we depend on the families we serve to keep our tradition going strong.  Whether as coaches, team managers, administrators, snack-providers or positive cheerleaders, each AYL family is asked to play a part in the program.  It’s the heart of Annandale Youth Lacrosse’s success over the decades and what will keep us successful for many more years to come.

We encourage all of our AYL families to get involved in the program because the simple truth is...we're only a good as the volunteers who help make our club successful year after year.  There are many different ways you can help, some requiring very few hours of commitment over the entire season.  Please let us know how you can help.

Season Basics

Lacrosse is a spring sport.  We begin each season with weekend assessments at the end of January/early February.  These are NOT tryouts -- every AYL player makes a team.  Assessments allow us to place players with comparable skills together so they can learn lacrosse as a team.

Practices are held twice a week with boys' games on Saturdays and girls' games on Sundays (traditionally).  We can not tell you a practice schedule in advance of the season.  Only after assessments end and teams are created are fields then assigned based on coaches availability and the fields assigned to us by Fairfax County.

The AYL program serves girls in grades K-8 and boys from ages 8U (ages up to 8) to 14U.
